Label     : Running Wild Productions

Origin    : Austria

Rating   : At the end

Scarecrow NWA (formerly known simply as Scarecrow) was formed in Graz, Austria in 1995. Over nearly 30 years, the band has developed a sound that blends melodic death metal with blackened and progressive elements. Around the mid-2000s, they adopted the name Scarecrow N.W.A. – short for New World Annihilation – and have since built a solid reputation in the underground scene through intense live shows and no-compromise releases.

Previous albums include Beyond Reality (2000), Misanthropolis (2005), Transgression (2011), and Ragnarök (2021). The band is known for technical ability, conceptual strength, and raw energy – all of which are on full display on their ninth full-length, IX.

Review:

To mark their 30th anniversary, Scarecrow NWA delivers IX – a concept album inspired by Dante’s nine circles of hell. Each track represents one circle, and together they form a heavy, dynamic journey through melody and darkness.

The album kicks off with fierce riffing, aggressive vocals, and tight blast beats. As it progresses, more melodic and progressive elements are introduced, adding depth without sacrificing weight. Clean vocals appear occasionally, adding contrast, but the music stays firmly rooted in death metal. The band moves effortlessly between chaos and structure, held together by strong production and sharp technical execution.

Toward the end, the music becomes more atmospheric and layered, without losing intensity. Fraud and Treachery stand out as two of the most brutal and refined tracks on the record – with Treachery providing a fitting and epic closing chapter.

IX is a strong release that proves Scarecrow NWA still has a lot to offer – musically and conceptually.

Standout tracks:
Greed, Fraud, Treachery – powerful, tight, and memorable.

For fans of:
In Flames, Killswitch Engage, The Haunted, Darkane.

Personal note:
As a fan of both melodeath and black metal, this album hit the spot. Varied, relentless, and tight as hell.
