My review on Corridoré - Abandon

Corridoré, a band formed around 2016–2017 in Madison, Wisconsin, operates at the intersection of post-metal, black metal, and shoegaze. Their first release was the demo/EP Vanquish The Light Of Day in 2017, featuring two lengthy tracks that introduced them as a deeply atmospheric and evocative force in the underground scene. They followed up in 2019 with a self-titled full-length, further refining their blend of atmospheric shoegaze and black metal. Eight years after their debut, their second full-length, Abandon, delivers five tracks totaling around 41 minutes of immersive music.

I had no expectations when I pressed play. The band was completely new to me, but as a black metal fan, my curiosity was piqued. The opening lines of We Vanish to Nothing immediately grabbed me , this was something else . A captivating blend of shoegaze-inspired soundscapes with underlying black metal energy set the tone. The vocals remain steady throughout, and when the clean singing merges with the rock elements, it opens a new dimension that is both intense and liberating.

The production is solid and dynamic , explosive blast beats and powerful tremolo riffs are balanced by delicate, melodic passages that provide variety and depth. This Great Demise stands out as a particularly emotional and powerful highlight. The final track begins quietly but gradually builds to a dramatic, gripping finale, with a melodic section in the middle that perfectly punctuates the underlying sense of desperation.

Abandon combines atmosphere, intensity, and emotional depth in a way that leaves a lasting impression. It has already earned a permanent spot on my playlist, and I’m excited to see how Corridoré develops this energy and depth in future releases.
