Defenestration – Windowframe Evisceration Sequence

Defenestration are a slamming death metal / deathcore band from Overpelt, Limburg in Belgium. The band consists of Roy Feyen on guitars and drum programming, Bart Van Damme on vocals, and Sam Philipsen on bass. Before Windowframe Evisceration Sequence, the band released Scalped on the Pavement in 2019 and Culpable Homicide in 2020, steadily building their reputation within the brutal underground.

This was my first real encounter with Defenestration, and what a journey it turned out to be. The first impression was fear ,it didn’t take long to understand that this album was going to be brutal. And when I say “fast ,” I mean very fast.

The vocals are absolutely savage. Brutal to the point of being almost incomprehensible, even for a good ear. We’re talking deep growls, pig squeals, gutturals, screams , everything is thrown into the mix. Instrumentally, the album is packed with riffs and blast beats, and yes, there are a lot of blast beats. In this case, it works perfectly for the genre and adds to the relentless intensity.                          There are moments of spoken parts in what sounds like Belgian.

Genre-wise, it’s hard to pin down with one label ,deathcore, slamming death metal, brutal death metal ,it’s all there, and then some. At times, I even catch hints of old-school thrash creeping into the instrumentation.

And then there are these drums. Absolutely insane. The speed is wild ,ridiculously fast , to the point where you almost feel out of breath and sweaty just sitting there listening.

Production-wise, this album is a victory in itself. The fact that they managed to put this level of chaos together so tightly is impressive. The mix is clear, heavy, and powerful, letting every element hit with full force.

While I’m not entirely sold on the vocal style throughout, I love almost everything else about this album: the melodies, the structure, and the sheer sense of enjoyment coming through the music. This isn’t something I’d listen to every day, but it’s absolutely worth experiencing.
This was a brutal adventure — and I’m glad I took part in it.
