Buried – Imagined Deformation Review: Progressive Death Metal at Its Finest (2026)
My review on Buried`S Imagined Deformation
Imagined Deformation
Dutch progressive death metal outfit Buried from Rotterdam, South Holland, have been crafting complex, intense metal since 2013. Their latest full-length, Imagined Deformation, was released inde on February 6, 2026 and continues the band’s tradition of technical brutality and unrelenting energy.

Dutch progressive death metal band Buried released Imagined Deformation on February 6th, 2026. With this album, they lean fully into speed, precision and technical force.
The guitars are sharp and technical, sometimes even groovy, but never restrained. There’s a clear sense of confidence here ,this is a band that knows exactly what it’s capable of. At times it borders on excess. There are moments where it feels like too many riffs are fighting for space. Still, the control never slips.
The drumming is relentless. The speed is almost absurd, yet it remains tight. It’s intense without feeling sloppy. This is technical skill pushed hard ,not for show, but as part of the band’s identity.
Atmospherically, the album feels dense and dark. There’s a constant pressure running through it, almost like being chased through something unseen. It rarely opens up fully, and that tension becomes part of its character.
The vocals strike a good balance. They’re not overly guttural or exaggerated, but still carry weight. They sit well in the mix and cut through the instrumental chaos instead of being swallowed by it.
Yes, the album can be overwhelming. Too much speed. Too much layering. But when it ends, the lasting impression is positive. It’s a record I would return to ,and that ultimately says more than any technical critique.
Rating: 7/10
I`ll be spinning more albums , stay tuned.
