Hellmaze - Dead Flesh Rising
My Review on Hellmaze - Dead Flesh Rising
Dead Flesh Rising is the first full-length album from Danish band Hellmaze, and it sounds exactly like a band that knows what it wants to do. No big statements. No genre experiments. Just thrash metal built on groove, riffs, and energy.
First impression? Thrashy, groovy, aggressive ,but clean. The overall mood is dark, raw, and heavy, yet surprisingly fun. This is one of those albums that makes you move without really thinking about it. A proper feelgood thrash record.
The guitars lean heavily into classic territory. Strong riffs, clear 80s thrash vibes, and some blast beats thrown in to keep the intensity high. Nothing feels overdone, the tempo shifts well, and the songs stay focused from start to finish.
Vocally, the band switches between clean vocals and growls, and that balance is really good. It never feels forced, and both styles fit the music naturally.
The drums deserve special mention. They play a huge role across the entire album and give it most of its groove. Tight, rhythmic, and driving ,they really hold everything together and push the songs forward.
Production-wise, the album sounds great. Clean and well-organized, with every instrument getting its own space. Nothing gets lost, and everything works together in a very natural way.
Highlights include the opening track Flesh, which sets the tone immediately, and Hell and Maze, where the speed and thrash elements really shine.
If there’s a weakness, it’s simply that the album ends too soon. You’re left wanting more. Dead Flesh Rising doesn’t try to reinvent thrash metal – it just delivers a damn solid, melodic, groovy thrash album. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
Rating: 7,5/10
“I’ll be spinning more albums – stay tuned.”
